Passeggiata Waterbury | Wednesday evenings
Passeggiata Waterbury is the village’s weekly evening stroll, held Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:30 throughout the warmer months. Rooted in the Italian tradition of an unhurried walk through town after the heat of the day has eased, the gathering has no set route, no required starting point, and no destination beyond wherever the stroll takes you. Walkers can find others gathered at Jack’s Alley around 5:30 to begin the evening together, then head off at their own pace.
Waterbury Events
The Leaf Peepers Half Marathon has been a Waterbury tradition since 1984, timed each year to land on peak fall color. Both the half marathon and the 5K start and finish at the state office complex on South Main Street, and the longer course rolls along the Winooski River through Waterbury and Duxbury. The half marathon begins at nine and the 5K at 9:15. The inn is a short walk from the start line, which makes for an easy race morning.
Bridgeside Books hosts its fifth annual evening of theatrical storytelling, with original Vermont tales written by local authors and performed by Kathryn Blume and Mark Nash. Cider and donuts from Cold Hollow Cider Mill are served at intermission. The church is a short walk down Main Street from the inn. Doors open at 6:30 and the show begins at 7:00. Stowe Events
More than 130 juried artists and makers gather at the Stowe Events Field during peak foliage for three days of fine craft, specialty foods, Vermont spirits and wine, live music, and traditional craft demonstrations. The festival runs from ten to five each day. Adult admission is $12 per day and children fourteen and under are free. Stowe is fifteen minutes up Route 100 from the inn.
Around Vermont
More than 250 Vermont artists and craftspeople open their studios for this self-guided fall tour, a chance to meet makers, see work in progress, and buy handmade art directly from the source. It falls on peak foliage weekend and pairs naturally with the Leaf Peepers race the next day.
The Tunbridge Fairgrounds host the 38th annual Vermont Sheep and Wool Festival, a two-day celebration of small farms and natural fiber. Vendors bring fleece, yarn, and finished woolens alongside fiber animals, shearing and spinning demonstrations, herding demos, classes, and contests, all set against peak fall foliage. It is a natural fit for the fiber fans who gather here for Wooly Wednesday.
